Why Clean a Roof?
1. A clean roof improves the look of a home or building. Roofs streaked with black mold make a building seem old, tired, and unkempt. Clean roofs lift the appearance of the whole house.

2. Mold shortens the lifespan of an asphalt shingle roof. Mold is a living organism that feeds on the limestone filler in the shingle granules. It spreads and thickens, absorbing heat that speeds the disintegration of the aggregate and makes attic spaces hotter.

3. Mold releases unhealthy airborne spores. Wind carries mold spores from roofs onto people and animals below. It can carry spores through open windows and across neighborhoods.

What is That Black Mold?
The scientific name for the black mold that grows on many Central Florida roofs is Gloeocapsa Magma. A species of bacteria, it first appears as a series of dark streaks across a roof. Over time, the streaks spread and join, and the whole roof becomes black.

How Does Cherub Pressure Cleaning Get Rid of Roof Mold?
We do not use water under high pressure for roof cleaning. Instead, we use a safe chemical solution that kills mold, mildew, algae, and fungus that’s present on roof materials. Once the organic matter is dead, we rinse it away with clean water under very low pressure.

Before applying the roof-cleaning solution, we take all necessary measures to protect plants around the house or building. This includes pre-watering so that roots are full of clean water and shielding plants from overspray. We follow protocols recommended by the Asphalt Roofing Manufacturing Association, which endorses chemical cleaning of asphalt shingle roofs.
